Thank you so much, Marina, for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger award! Please check out Marina’s blog Books of Magic, it is absolutely lovely! This is the second award Marina has nominated me for and I am so thankful for our blogging friendship even though we haven’t met in IRL but I hope to meet her in the future! I was nominated for this award when I was going through a crazy period of my life which is known as the END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR PEOPLE! I am now so happy that I can now go back to a more consistent blogging schedule! Now let’s get started!
The rules for accepting the award are as follows:
- Thank the blogger who nominated you
- Nominate 11 other bloggers to receive the award and write them 11 new questions
- Display the rules and the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post
1. What is the first novel you’ve ever read?
Oh man, talk about taking it back! My first novel was The Baby-Sitters Club Kristy’s Great Idea!
This book was iconic for me and it shaped me so much as a reader growing up! I love that this book is about a couple of girls who start a business together which was rare to find in the early 90’s! Usually, pop culture loves to pit women against one another and I love that BSC is about female bonding and running a business through all the crazy middle-school drama that they go through together! I am all about girl power!
2. What is your favorite animal?
Well, I think my blog name speaks for itself and the incessant cat gifs and pictures of my cat modeling for my book reviews!
Oh and not to mention, I have an Instagram page dedicated solely to my cat @charliechuchi! Also, I have a fascination with fairies and my fantasy animal would be a combo between a cat and a fairy, hence my goofy blog name!
3. What is your favorite graphic novel/comic?
I am a total Archie freaaaak! I have been reading Archie comics since I was in the second grade! I have always had a thing for love triangles and I will always be Team Betty! (BTW I absolutely adore the tv show Riverdale and I am obsessed with Betty and Veronica’s friendship! And Jughead…swoooon…don’t even get me started!)
4. What’s the worst book you’ve ever read and why?
Oh man, I was going through a romance book phase and I joined this book club at one point that was crazy for 50 Shades of Grey. It was actually a fun period of my life but I have moved on from erotic romances like that and one of the books we read was a book called Wanderlust. Oh dear! That book was traumatic! This book involves rape and the character falling for the person that assaulted her which I feel is just completely wrong and problematic! It’s not romantic and it’s definitely not sexy! These authors need to stop glamorizing rape! Not to mention, the book was just badly written and the characters were underdeveloped.
5. Have you ever tried reading in another language, and which one?
I have tried to read One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in Spanish and it was a fail!
6. Your favorite holiday, a book, and a movie related to it?
My favorite holiday is Halloween! I am a Halloweenie girl at heart! The Halloween book that I adore to death hands down is my childhood book The Cat Who Wanted to Fly!
I legit read this story to my class every school year! Every year, I wear my witch hat, grab an inflatable black cat, and throw the cat across the room while I read this story!
Nothing makes me happier than seeing my kids faces light up when I am reading this story! And of course, my favorite Halloween movie of all time is Hocus Pocus! I am all about witches during Halloween and I always make sure to read a witchy book! Any recommendations anyone?
7. You can choose one Deathly Hallow. Which one and why?
I would choose the Cloak of Invisibility because the thought of being invisible is rather appealing for this introvert! If I want to get out of an awkward party, go to the bookstore in my pajamas, or skip the lines at Disney World all I need is that invisibility cloak!
8. Cats or dogs? Or horses?
I think this answers your question!
9. Do you have a hobby and what is it? You better not say reading hahaha, that’s not a hobby, it’s a life calling.
I love to write and I am working on a magical realism novel at the moment! I am planning to do Camp NaNoWriMo next month in July! My goal is 10,000 words for now! Wish me luck!
10. Do you like art? If yes, who is your favorite illustrator/painter?
Art museums are a thing for me and one of my favorite activities is going to art events especially contemporary art events! I have always been a huge pop art fan and currently, I am loving anything by Deborah Azzopardi! Her use of bright colors and playful content is enough to get your attention!
